Embark the ship in Seattle.
Day 1: Seattle
You'll be met at the airport and transferred to the Safari Explorer where your crew greets you with champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Shortly after boarding, begin your cruise north towards a serene anchorage where the ship will remain overnight.
Day 2: Friday Harbor, Washington
Arrive at the quaint Friday Harbour and discover its maritime history, art galleries, and a fascinating Whale Museum. Explore the shallow coves and islets close to shore by skiff or kayak around the serene San Juan Islands—an archipelago of islands first charted by the Spanish in 1791.
Day 3: Salish Sea - Canada's Inside Passage
Today the ship will cruise the Salish Sea where mountains rise higher and fjords become more dramatic. In these intricate waterways and fjords backed by rain forests are the ideal locations for sighting orca, seals, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, porpoise, sea birds, and spotting bald eagles from on deck. Here you may also discover how native influences and the fishing and forest industries have shaped these sparsely-populated islands and communities.
Days 4-5: Canada's Inside Passage
Keep your eyes peeled for orca whales, sea lions, seals and bears as you spend the next two days exploring the Canadian Inside Passage. Your Naturalist Guide will teach you about the local wildlife and fisheries, and will share little-known details on rainforest wolves and the mysterious spirit bear. Pass the ghost town of Butedale, on British Columbia’s Princess Royal Island, before passing through Prince Rupert, BC and crossing the US/Canadian border into Alaska.
Day 6: Ketchikan, Alaska
Spend some time exploring Ketchikan and discover its Tlingit culture, and the notorious Creek Street where you can find a good dose of local colour.
Day 7: Misty Fjords National Monument
Today you will visit one of Alaska’s greatest natural and cultural treasures which is home to almost every ecosystem in Southeast Alaska. See glacial valleys full of sea water and the 3000ft sheer walls of granite that are a haven for wildlife.
Day 8: Behm Canal
Arrive in Behm Canal where wildlife abounds and explore the surrounding Tongass National Forest—orca, porpoise, seals, black bears, mink, eagles, and otters. Paddle along pristine waterways or venture out on an intertidal shore walk.
Day 9: Wrangell
Home to native culture, wildlife, and wonder you will arrive at Wrangell, one of the oldest towns in Alaska. Learn about Tlingit culture and view recently carved totem poles at Kiksetti Totem Park. Wander past the fishing marina to the famed and historically significant Chief Shakes Tribal House. Touch Wrangell's storied past at the artifact-filled museum.
Day 10: Wrangell Narrows - Thomas Bay
Bright red and green navigation lights guide you along “Christmas Tree Lane” as you cruise the winding Wrangell Narrows. Today you will step into the back country of Alaska's wilderness, in an area known for glaciers and rich in gold and quartz. Here you may enjoy a range of activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, skiff riding, or hiking.
Day 11: Stephens Passage
Today the ship navigates the remote fjords along Stephen's Passage - here you may observe the humpback and orca, who are frequent residents of these waters. A range of exhilarating activities are available including hiking through an other-worldly landscape of hanging waterfalls and emerald greens. Or investigate the wild inner reaches of a salt chuck—a tidal salt-water lake—by kayak and paddle board, keeping a lookout for bears, heron, moose, mink, and harbor seals.
Day 12: Endicott Arm - Fords Terror
Snow covered mountains, glowing blues, and the white thunder of calving ice at Dawes Glacier complete your last day. Gliding through Endicott Arm, you’ll likely spy harbour seals and their pups lounging on “bergy bits” in the water. And if the tides allow, explore Fords Terror—a narrow passageway with towering walls and cascading waterfalls. At the end of the day, join the Captain for a sumptuous Farewell Dinner and reminisce with a slideshow of your journey from the crew.
