Upper Loire and Burgundy Cruise Package from Paris (7 Days)

The Renaissance accommodates just eight guests, in luxuriously appointed style and elegance. Stone and wood flooring, fine furniture and fabrics embrace an interior which has been designed with passenger space and comfort in mind. She has four suites, each with its own private bathroom. On board there is a spacious sun deck with jacuzzi and bicycles are available for excursions to local landmarks. Five crew members offer top-class hospitality as the Renaissance gracefully makes her way along some of the oldest manmade waterways of France.

A transfer from the Hotel Westminster in Paris to the barge in Chatillon-sur-Loire is included. Full details to be advised upon confirmation.

Day 1: Paris - Chatillon-sur-Loire

Please note that this is a sample itinerary and may be subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise runs in the opposite direction. Arrive in Paris and transfer to the Renaissance in Chatillon-sur-Loire. A champagne welcome awaits you as you set off across Gustav Eiffel's magical aqueduct spanning the River Loire. There will be time for a walk or bicycle ride before your first gourmet dinner on board tonight.

Day 2: Chatillon-sur-Loire - La Gazonne

This morning you will enjoy a visit to a family-run vineyard in Sancerre. This medieval hilltop village has been famous for wine production since Roman times. After lunch, continue your cruise to La Gazonne, a scenic mooring situated between the Seine on one side and the Saone on the other.

Day 3: La Gazonne - Rogny les-Sept-Ecluses

Today the barge moors up at the village of Rogny les-Sept-Ecluses. After lunch you will enjoy an excursion to the privately-owned Château de La Bussière, known as the ‘fishermen’s castle’, with its wonderful ornamental and vegetable gardens. Return to the boat for dinner on board.

Day 4: Rogny les Sept Ecluses - Montbouy

After breakfast there will be a visit to Gien, home to Faience pottery and the hunting museums and Chateau de Gien, constructed in the 15th century for the eldest daughter of Louis XI. In the afternoon, a leisurely cruise brings you to the lovely village of Montbouy. Dinner ashore at the Michelin-starred Auberge des Templiers in Les Bezards.

Day 5: Montbouy - Montcresson

The barge leaves Montbouy and gently cruises onto the village of Montcresson. During the afternoon there will be a visit to Chateau Sully sur Loire, where Joan of Arc was virtually imprisoned after her failed attempt to liberate Paris in 1430. Voltaire also spent time here in the 18th century. Dinner on board.

Day 6: Montcresson - Montargis

A morning cruise takes you through Little Venice, past bridges decked in flowers and medieval watercourses joining France's oldest canal. There will be opportunities for you to cycle along the towpath as you travel to Montargis. Your afternoon visit is to the Château de Fontainebleau. A walk through this splendid palace is like walking through the history of France; each French royal family added its own architectural style and features during their time here. Return to the barge where the Captain invites you to his Farewell Dinner.

Day 7: Montargis - Paris

After a final breakfast on board, disembark for a transfer back to Paris.

Disembark the ship after breakfast on the last day for a transfer back to the Hotel Westminster, Paris.
