Classic Alsace Cruise (7 Days)

The Panache is a twelve passenger luxury hotel barge of classic Dutch design. The barge is tastefully furnished in an old ship style with brass and mahogany fittings, creating a very comfortable and charming atmosphere. There are spacious public areas including a salon and dining area and sun deck with heated spa pool and six large double or twin en-suite suites. The Panache also has an onboard master chef who will serve guests gourmet cuisine daily with fine selected wines.

A local transfer from the designated meeting point in Strasbourg to the barge is included.

Day 1: Krafft

Please note that this is a sample itinerary and may be subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise may run in the opposite direction. Meet at the designated meeting point in Strasbourg for a transfer the barge where you will be greeted with a Champagne Welcome. There will be time for a walk or cycle ride before your first gourmet dinner on board tonight.

Day 2: Krafft to Strasbourg

Your day starts with a morning cruise across Gran Ried wetlands and home to an abundance of birdlife arriving at the historic city of Strasbourg. Later enjoy a tour of this beautiful city visiting the Place Gutenberg and pass the impressive Protestant church of St-Thomas and the 12th century gothic Cathedral. You will also have time to explore La Petite France, a pedestrian area brimming with half-timbered houses, boutique shops and cafes.

Day 3: Strasbourg to Hochfelden

After breakfast, the Panache will cruise past the impressive European Parliament building on the outskirts of Strasbourg and on through the Brumath Forest to a picturesque mooring at Hochfelden. After lunch enjoy a scenic drive into the rolling Vosges hills and on the Route des Grands Vins, where the finest wines of Alsace are produced, followed by a private tasting of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and Riesling wines at a long-established winemaker, such as Domaine Pfister. Dinner ashore this evening at a traditional Alsatian restaurant.

Day 4: Hochfelden to Saverne

This morning enjoy a guided tour at the Meteor Brewery with optional beer tasting. The brewery was founded in 1640 and is the last privately-owned brewery in Alsace. Return to the barge as she continues on to the enchanting town of Saverne where history traces back over 2,000 years to the Gallo-Roman Times, mooring at the foot of the Château de Rohan, also known as the ‘Versailles of Alsace’. Dinner on board.

Day 5: Saverne - Lutzelbourg

After breakfast enjoy an optional visit to one of the local bakeries to watch skilled bread makers and patissiers preparing their delicious creations before a morning cruise to Lutzelbourg. In the afternoon, you will visit the mountaintop village of La Petite Pierre with its medieval castle, then tour the outstanding René Lalique collection and see over 500 exceptional examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware.

Day 6: Lutzelbourg - Niderviller

This morning the barge will cruise through the beautiful Alsatian countryside, again with excellent walking and cycling opportunities, before visiting the Lehrer Crystal glassworks located close to our mooring. Next the barge will ascend the unique Arzviller boat elevator that carries Panache effortlessly 450 feet up the mountainside in minutes and avoids 17 locks! Once the boat arrives in Niderviller you can enjoy a tour of Sarrebourg, including visits to the 13th century chapel containing the remarkable stained-glass window designed by Marc Chagall and the impressive museum of Roman and Medieval artefacts. Return to barge for a Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.
