Panache

Amsterdam Tulip Cruise (7 Days)

The Panache is a twelve passenger luxury hotel barge of classic Dutch design. The barge is tastefully furnished in an old ship style with brass and mahogany fittings, creating a very comfortable and charming atmosphere. There are spacious public areas including a salon and dining area and sun deck with heated spa pool and six large double or twin en-suite suites. The Panache also has an onboard master chef who will serve guests gourmet cuisine daily with fine selected wines.

Embark

A local transfer to the barge is included and you will embark in Alkmaar. Further details are available on request.

Day 1: Alkmaar

Please note that this is a sample itinerary and may be subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise may operate in the opposite direction. Arrive and take a local transfer to the Panache which will be moored in Alkmaar. Enjoy a Champagne Welcome from the crew before your first gourmet dinner on board tonight.

Day 2: Alkmaar - Zaandam

This morning there will be a visit to Alkmaar and Zaanse Schans where you will gain an insight into the Dutch lifestyles of the 17th and 18th centuries. Here you will see authentic houses, an historic shipyard, a cheese farm, a clog-making demonstration and many windmills. After lunch back on the barge, set sail for Zaandam.

Day 3: Zaandam - Haarlem

Those who like an early start will enjoy a visit to the Aalsmeer flower auction, where some 17 million cut flowers are auctioned every day. Return to the barge for breakfast and then visit historic Haarlem which dates back to the 13th century. Here you can see the Frans Hals Museum, with its collection of Old Masters, and St Bavo's Cathedral where both Mozart and Handel played on the magnificent Muller organ.

Day 4: Haarlem - Oude Wetering

Early morning you may join an optional tour to the Aalsmeer Flower auction, where some 17 million cut flowers from all over the world are traded here each day. After breakfast enjoy a tour of Haarlem. The city is home to the Frans Hals Museum founded in 1862 with its vast collection of Old Masters or there is some free time to explore the boutique shops. After lunch the ship cruises onto Oude Wetering, where there is time to walk or cycle along the towpaths around the lake.

Day 5: Oude Wetering - Leiden

After breakfast cruise to Leiden, home of one of the oldest universities in the country and the birthplace of Rembrandt. Leiden is an historical city full of charm and character. Perfect for those who like to cycle, or simply stroll the banks of the pretty tree lined canals. This afternoon we take a tour of the city, with your tour leader explaining the history that dates back to Roman times and includes more recent sites such as the church, St. Pieterskerk, from which the pilgrims departed for America.

Day 6: Leiden - Delft

Enjoy a morning cruise to Delft, well known for its pottery, which were styled on the imported Chinese porcelain of the 17th century. The beautiful, unspoilt town is more than 750 years old, and began as the home port of the Dutch East India Company. Following lunch, we visit a Delft tableware factory, just 5 minutes walk from our hotel barge mooring to learn how this world-famous porcelain is made Return to the barge for the Captain's Farewell Dinner tonight.

Day 7: Gouda

After a final breakfast on board, disembark in Gouda for a local transfer and your onward journey.
