Orient Pandaw

The Orient Pandaw is a stylish river cruise ship full of character and comfort. The ship offers journeys on the mighty Irrawaddy River. The river begins at the confluence of two rivers in Kachin State, the N'mai and Mali Rivers, and discharges into the Andaman sea through a vast 10,000-square mile Delta. Cruise itineraries take you from Pagan to Mandalay. On board there are 18 spacious teak cabins with en suite private facilities and a promenade and observation deck boasting colonial style décor. Embark the ship at Pagan Ayar Hotel Jetty.

Day 1: Pagan

Upon arrival in Pagan, one of the richest archaeological sites in the world, transfer to the Pagan Ayar Hotel Jetty where the Orient Pandaw is moored. Enjoy lunch aboard the ship followed by exploration of a selection of the 3000 plus Pagan monuments by bicycle or coach. Please note that it takes approximately 3.5 hours by drive for transfer from Mandalay airport to ship (Pagan) for embarkation.

Day 2: Pagan

Spend the day exploring this fascinating city. During the period between 11th and 13th century the kings of Bagan dynasty ruled the country and ordered thousands of pagodas and temples to be built. You will find around 20 temples and pagodas to be seen here with some incredible ornate designs.

Day 3: Salay - Pakhannge - Tan Chi Taung

Early morning sailing to Salay. Once a thriving trading port it is now a sleepy village filled with colonial architectural treasures and teak monasteries and home to the best-known teak carved monastery in Burma. Continue to Pakhannge, a Pagan dynasty city with several period temples and a collection of eighteenth and nineteenth century wood carved monasteries from the Konbaung Period. Sail to the foot of the Tan-Chi-Taung mountains which you will ascend by WWII jeep to visit a selection of the 3,000 listed monuments at this World Heritage Site. Late afternoon visit Min-Nan-Thu, one of eight clinics in the Pagan area which is supported by the Pandaw Charity.

Day 4: Pakokku

Arrive in the market town of Pakokku where you may explore the the bustling town by Tuk Tuk.

Day 5: Yandabo

Arrive at Yandabo village, famous for its production of terrocotta pottery from the river bank clay. Spend the afternoon aboard the ship as she gently sails northwards to Ava.

Day 6: Sagaing - Amarapura

Today the ship sails to Sagaing home to a 1000 hermitages and sanctuaries, rich in woodcarving and religious art. In the afternoon you will be driven to Amarapura, the former capital of Myanmar. Enjoy a boat trip on the Taungthaman lake and watch the sunset behind the world’s longest teak bridge - U Bein Bridge. You will also see silk weavers at work in their shop.

Day 7: Mingun - Mandalay

This morning the ship sails to Mingun where you can explore on-foot the world’s largest working bell and unfinished pagoda. In the afternoon enjoy sight-seeing in central Mandalay visiting the palaces, hill areas, local craft workshops and shopping.

Day 8: Mandalay

It’s time to say goodbye to your crew, fellow passengers and the Orient Pandaw today. Disembarkation takes place from 09:00hrs (Shwe Kyet Yet Jetty) and transfers to the airport.
