Le Champlain

The Azores and Madeira

Launching in 2018, Le Champlain is one of a new series of Explorer ships that remain true to the Ponant spirit, embodying the unique atmosphere that is the cruise line’s hallmark: a subtle blend of refinement, intimacy and comfort. The ship offers guests elegantly designed cabins, spacious suites with large windows, and lounge areas that open onto the outside, this new limited-capacity yacht boasting just 92 cabins and suites will offer you a truly unique cruising experience.

Embark the ship in Ponta Delgada, Azores.

Day 1: Ponta Delgada, Azores

Board Le Champlain in Ponta Delgada, located on the southern coastline of Sao Miguel Island, in the Azores. You will have time to explore your cabin and new surroundings. Later you will join fellow guests for the captains first dinner, drinks and evening entertainment.

Day 2: Vila do Porto

Today you will arrive at Vila do Porto, the oldest town in the Azores. You can join an optional panoramic tour visiting the small seaside resort of Anjos where you may visit the small chapel where Christopher Columbus attended mass upon his return from the discovery of America. You will also visit the typical village of Santa Barbara and admire the unique lanscape of São Lourenço Bay.

Day 3: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Funchal, Madeira.

Days 4-5: Funchal, Madeira

The next two days are spent in Funchal, Madeira. Explore the old town whose walkways are lined with mulit-coloured mosaics that will lead you to the Mercado do Lavradores market, the Frederico de Freitas museum, and the golden panelling of the Cathedral de la Sé. Along the waterfront, the palm tree-shaded promenade leads you to the teleféricos de Monte, Madeira's cable cars. Its panoramic cabins transport you over the city to top of Monte, where you can see the picturesque botanical garden.

Day 6: Porto Santo Island, Madeira

Morning arrival at Porto Santo Island, situated fifty kilometres northeast Madeira Island. Enjoy one of the most beautiful and peaceful islands in Europe. Its landscapes are very different to Madiera with long sandy beaches and brown and yellow hues around the island. Join an optional island tour, a Porto Santo hiking tour or discover the island by boat sailing along the coast where you can admire its volcanic cliffs and long stretches of sandy beach.

Day 7: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Lisbon.

Day 8: Lisbon

Your voyage ends in Lisbon where you will disembark the ship.
