La Belle Epoque

Burgundy Cruise from Tanlay to Venarey le Laumes (7 Days)

The 12-passenger La Belle Époque is a state-of the-art luxury hotel barge which benfited from a major refurbishment in 2011. She has been designed with both elegance and passenger comfort in mind and offers a host of luxurious facilities, including a sun deck, spa-pool and wood panelled saloon and dining room. She provides the opulence of a top class hotel with ever-changing Burgundy scenery.

Services begin with a transfer from the Hotel Westminster in Paris to the hotel barge.

Day 1: Tanlay

Please note that this is a sample itinerary and may be subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise will operate in reverse direction. Take your transfer from Paris and board the barge which will be moored in Tanlay. Here you are welcomed by the crew who will be waiting with champagne and canapes. Take some time to settle in to your cabin and then enjoy your first dinner on board and an introduction to Burgundy's excellent cuisine.

Day 2: Tanlay - Lezinne

Wake to the aromas of ground coffee and French pastries and enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board. There is a morning cruise to Lezinne with the opportunity to cycle or walk into the picturesque 16th century village, Saint Vinemer. After lunch tour the vineyards and town of Chablis, dating back to Roman times and enjoy a private wine tasting at a renowned winemaker such as the family-run Domaine Régnard, which makes the most of the region’s wonderful local terroir to produce high quality wine. Dinner will be served back on board the barge.

Day 3: Lezinne - Ancy-le-Franc

After breakfast enjoy a leisurely cruise to Ancy le Franc, with plenty of opportunities to walk or cycle ahead of the barge. You will visit the Château d’Ancy-le-Franc, a beautifully symmetrical, 16th century masterpiece containing France’s biggest collection of Renaissance murals and is set in magnificent gardens and parkland.

Day 4: Ancy le Franc - Ravieres

Today you will head to Les Riceys, the only wine growing area of the Champagne region to have three Appellation d'Origine Controlees. Visit the Maison Alexandre Bonnet for a private champagne tasting, a family owned Champagne house renowned for a stunning yearly harvest of Pinot Noir. Then take a short drive to Château de Ricey-Bas; with its 12th century vaulted cellars and thousand year history it’s the ideal location to appreciate the rolling vineyards and enjoy a glimpse of family life in a rural château. Here you will be greeted with a Champagne aperitif and a gourmet lunch with the Baroness herself. In the afternoon enjoy a stroll in the beautiful gardens or exploring the chateau. Return to the barge for dinner.

Day 5: Ravieres - Montbard

Take a leisurely cruise to Montbard and enjoy the many walking or cycling opportunities en route. After lunch there will be a guided visit to the exquisite UNESCO World Heritage Site of Abbaye de Fantenay, founded in 1118 by St Bernard. Dinner on board.

Day 6: Montbard - Venerey les Laumes

Take a morning cruise through woodlands and rolling fields with some great biking and walking opportunities as you pass the tiny canalside villages of Nogent, Courcelles and Les Granges. Enjoy a visit to the moat-encircled Château de Commarin to be treated to a private demonstration of the medieval sport of falconry. Afterwards you will meet Count Bertrand de Vogue, the current resident and 26th generation of the de Vogue family to maintain continuous residence since the 13th century, who will give a fascinating insight into the Château’s history. This is followed by a private tour. Dinner on board.
