Porto, the Douro Valley and Salamanca 8 Day Cruise

Discover the delights of the Douro Valley in Portugal aboard the Infante Don Henrique, a 3 deck ship constructed in 2003. The ship is able to accommodate up to 142 guests in 71 comfortable double cabins, on a variety of itineraries which represent excellent value for money. Cruise in a unique setting, amid unspoilt nature and breathtaking landscapes. On board, swim in the pool or soak up the sun on the spacious sundeck, complete with shaded area. This cruise ship also features a lounge bar with a dance floor and restaurant serving French inspired cuisine.





Embark the ship in Porto at 17:00hrs.

Day 1: Porto

Check in from 17:00 hours and settle into your cabin at leisure. There will be a presentation from the crew. A welcome cocktail will be served in the lounge, followed by dinner on board the ship.

Day 2: Porto

Today you will spend the day exploring the city of Porto, you will have the opportunity to join an optional guided tour. The historic centre has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site, with unspoilt old quarters, a maze of winding narrow streets, arcaded houses and superb churches. Of course Porto is known throughout the world for its Porto wine and you will visit a famous cellar and have the opportunity to taste! Return to the ship for lunch and have the rest of the afternoon at your own leisure. Dinner on board the ship followed by a fado evening.

Day 3: Porto - Regua

Enjoy a free morning in Porto or perhaps join an optional excursion to Braga, nicknamed the “Rome of Portugal” because of its religious architecture of very high quality. Return for lunch as the ship sails onto Regua passing some impressive scenery. The ship will go through locks in Crestuma and Carrapatelo, the highest in Europe at 36 metres. Dinner on board followed by a dinner-dance or enjoy a free stroll through Regua by night.

Day 4: Regua - Barca d’Alva

In the morning you will have the opportunity to join an optional excursion to Villa Real, a historical town brimming with religious architecture and the tranquil gardens of Solar de Mateus. Return for lunch as the ship sails through the heart of the vineyards of Porto, passing magnificent hillsides covered in trellised vines and through the locks in Valeira and Pocinho to reach Barca d’Alva. Dinner on board followed by a flamenco evening.

Day 5: Vega de Teron

Join an optional excursion to the Spanish town of Salamanca, awarded world heritage status by UNESCO and packed with extraordinary Romanesque, Arab and Christian architectural treasures. Enjoy lunch in Salamanca. Back to the boat. Dinner and an evening’s entertainment on board in Vega de Teron.

Day 6: Vega de Teron - Ferradosa - Pinhao

Enjoy a morning's sailing through the locks in Pocinho and Valeira. Lunch on board before stopping in Ferradosa around 2.00pm. Here you can join an optional “wines of Porto” excursion, where you will follow the road through the vineyards and stop at a belvedere in the heart of the vines. Take part in a tasting of local wines at a farm. You will also be able to explore the old station in Pinhao at your own pace, with its splendid “azulejos” (typical Portuguese tiles). Dinner and gala evening on board.

Day 7: Pinhao - Porto

Today you may join an optional guided tour of Lamego, where you will the Nossa Senhora dos Remedios sanctuary and the cathedral. Return to the ship in Regua and enjoy lunch on board and an afternoon’s sailing, passing through a number of large locks. Arrival in Porto at the end of the evening. Dinner and traditional evening on board.

Day 8: Porto

After breakfast you will disembark in Porto.


Disembark the ship in Porto at 09:00hrs.
