Arosa Luna

Rhone Route Classique - LUNA

The A-Rosa Luna is a modern river cruiser which offers cruises on France's scenic Rhône and Saône rivers. The ship boasts a range of unique facilities designed specifically for the well-being of its guests, including a sauna with one-way glass walls, a steam room, a bio-sauna and a full spa offering a range of traditional and Hawaiian Lomilomi massages. Day 1: Lyon

Board the Arosa Luna in Lyon where you will be welcomed by the crew. In the evening, the ship will take a leisurely cruise through Lyon's Old Town as you enjoy your first gourmet dinner on board.

Day 2: Chateauneuf-du-Pape - Avignon

Arrive mid afternoon in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, located just a couple of kilometres away from Rhone and not to be confused with the wine-growing region of the same name in the Rhone Valley. From here you may travel to the beautiful city of Avignon. An optional walking tour of the city takes you to the Palais des Papes and the Church of St Agricol. Finally, head up to the viewpoint at Rocher des Domes where you will appreciate some fantastic views of the river valley and the famous 'Pont d'Avignon'.

Day 3: Avignon - Arles

The Arosa Luna will remain in Avignon this morning and there will be free time for you to explore the city further at your leisure. In the afternoon, the ship sails to Arles, the historic city that is featured in no less than 187 of Vincent van Gogh's works. Spend the morning exploring the city or join an excursion to the Camargue, an area known for its white horses, flamingos and wonderful beaches.

Day 4: Viviers

Your cruise continues on the Rhône today and this afternoon the ship arrives into Viviers in the Southern Ardèche. Here you can join an optional excursion which takes you through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Southern France. Your tour will include a visit to one of the numerous caves in the area, such as the Grottes des Madeleines, which has no less than 25 subterranean halls, or the Grotte Chauvet, home to the oldest cave paintings in the world. You will also enjoy a visit to one of the Ardèche's lavender producers to learn about the different types of lavender and their uses. In the afternoon the ship departs for Lyon.

Day 5: Lyon

Wake up in the city of Lyon, strategically located at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône rivers. Here, you can join an optional tour of the city by coach which will take you to the old town, or Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also visit an old silk printing shop to learn about the French silk industry which made Lyon the city it is today. The rest of the afternoon is free, the ship will depart at 6pm.

Day 6: Chalon-sur-Saône - Tournus - Macon

Your cruise continues north to Chalon-sur-Saône in southern Burgundy today. With its rich cultural heritage and traditions, this town represents a magnificent image of the Burgundy region. From here, you can join an optional excursion into the heart of Burgundy, passing through the notable wine villages of Pommard, Mersault, Chassagne and Puligny. In Beaune itself you will have time to stroll around the picturesque old town and you will visit one of the leading wine producers of the region. Your cruise continues to Tournus, a French town is almost exactly halfway between Mâcon and Chalon-sur-Saône, then onto Macon, the southernmost city in the Burgundy region.

Day 7: Macon

Spend the day in Mâcon, a town that has a slight Mediterranean feel, with canal tile roofs and buildings painted in soft pastel colours. Explore the many sights such as museums, bridges and castles.

Day 8: Lyon

Your cruise comes to an end this morning as you disembark in Lyon for your onward journey.
