Arosa Alva

Douro, Porto and Salamanca Cruise (Highlights of the Douro Cruise)

The Arosa Alva is the latest addition to the A-Rosa fleet. The ship launched in April 2019 and will be sailing the Douro River departing from beautiful Porto. Discover this beautiful city with its wonderful old town, the taste of port wine and enjoy the view from Portugal's highest church tower. Don't miss out on a trip to Salamanca in Spain, which is an UNESCO World Heritage City with its university from the 13th century. The Arosa Alva can accommodate up to 126 passengers in contemporary cabins and suites all with outside windows or balconies. It is the smallest ship in the fleet but has all the comforts and luxuries of her sister ships including a SPA-ROSA with sauna and treatment rooms, a gym and a pool and sun deck. ll our pricing shown here is for the 'All Inclusive Program'. Embark the ship in Porto.

Day 1: Porto

Arrive in Porto, Portugal's second largest city and board the A-Rosa Alva this afternoon. Settle into your cabin and explore the range of amenities on offer. Soak up the ship’s atmosphere on the sun deck and enjoy your first hours in Portugal.

Day 2: Porto - Antigo

Explore this beautiful city where gleaming azulejo tiles adorning church walls and townhouse facades can be found at every turn. The old town – a UNESCO World Heritage Sight is a wonderful way to while away your morning admiring the colourful architecture, small boutiques and cafes.

Day 3: Porto Antigo - Régua - Pinhão

Depart Porto Antigo in the morning cruising along the Douro river. You will arrive at your next destination Regua at midday, the largest city on the banks of the Douro wine growing region. The Alto Douro region has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001 and has played a fundamental role in the production and marketing of port wine. Continue onto Pinhao, situated in the famous port wine region and particularly picturesque stretch of the Douro river region. Explore its enchanting vineyards and the quintas and join a wine tour and tasting at a local vineyard.

Day 4: Pinhao - Barca d’Alva

Depart Pinhao early morning and continue sailing the Douro arriving at Barca d’Alva early afternoon. From Barca d’Alva, the ship will head for nearby Spain – to Salamanca. The provincial capital, situated on the banks of the Rio Tormes, is in a league of its own. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has one of the most beautiful central squares and one of the oldest universities in Spain (13th century).

Day 5: Barca d’Alva - Vega Terron

Start your day in the Barca d’Alva National Park a beautiful area of the Douro region. Return to the ship as it continues onto Vega Terron, a small Spanish port town. From here it is a popular passageway to the university city of Salamanca, known for its ornate sandstone architecture and for the Universidad de Salamanca.

Day 6: Vega Terron - Pinhao - Regua

The ship will then sail back towards Pinhao where you can spend more time enjoying this beautiful stretch of the Douro river. Visit the rolling vineyards for further wine tastings and delicious food at a local quinta.

Day 7: Regua - Porto

Depart the beautiful town of Regua and continue onto Porto, soaking up the sights and attractions of the Douro valley en-route. Arrive back in Porto early afternoon where you will have more time to explore this fascinating city.

Day 8: Porto

Your Douro river voyage ends in Porto where you will disembark the ship.
