Canal du Midi Cruise from Marseillan to Le Somail (7 Days)

The 8-passenger Anjodi is of classic Dutch design, specifically rebuilt to navigate the 300-year-old Canal du Midi. She has been completely refurbished in the tasteful tradition of African hardwoods, with hand-crafted panelling and shining brass creating a comfortable and charming ambiance. The well planned accommodation offers a choice of four air-conditioned twin/double staterooms with full en-suite facilities. The sun deck is spacious and has a heated sunken jacuzzi. The cruise is led by a knowledgeable and experienced Captain who will ensure a memorable and enjoyable journey.





You will be met at the designated meeting point and be transferred by air-conditioned minibus to Anjodi.

Day 1: Marseillan

Please note that this is a sample itinerary and may be subject to change. On alternate weeks the cruise will operate in the opposite direction. Arrive at the local station and transfer to the Anjodi moored in the lakeside fishing village of Marseillan, the home of Noilly Pratt Vermouth. There is a champagne welcome on board, followed by some free time for a relaxing stroll around this lovely fishing village before your first gourmet dinner aboard.

Day 2: Marseillan - Portiragnes

This morning you will enjoy a visit to the delightful village of Pezenas, known for its associations with the famous French playwright, Moliere. There is the option to visit a local oyster farm to sample its delicious produce with a glass of white wine while enjoying a view of the oyster beds. Then cruise from Marseillan to Portiragnes through the nature reserve of Bagnas where you may see flamingos and other wonderful birdlife.

Day 3: Portiragnes - Colombiers

This morning's cruise brings you to the bottom of the Fonseranes 7 lock flight at Beziers where you continue along the 300 year old tree lined Canal du Midi. After lunch an informative wine tasting session takes place in the 14th century Chateau de Perdiguier, famed for its 15th century frescoes and Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. Tonight, enjoy dinner onboard.

Day 4: Colombiers - Fonserannes

Today's morning excursion to to Narboone, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. You will visit the Archbishop’s Palace, Cathedral and Via Domitia and explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling town. return to the hotel barge for a cruise via the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, perhaps pausing en route at the Poilhes brewery for a tour and tasting, to our mooring in the pretty village of Colombiers which lies on an old Roman road, the Via Domitia.

Day 5: Capestang - Sallèles d’Aude

Today the barge will cruise through the world’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, to Capestang, again with perfect cycling and walking opportunities along the way. After lunch you can enjoy an excursion to Minerve, the ancient capital of Minervois which boasts a 12th century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete the intriguing picture. Dinner on board.

Day 6: Sallèles d’Aude - Le Somail

This morning you will enjoy your final cruise along the historic Canal du Midi to the pretty village of Le Somail. After lunch you will visit Carcassonne. Dating back to the Gallo Roman era, this is the most complete medieval fortified city in existence today. Boasting 52 watchtowers and extensive city walls it is a wonderful final excursion on board the Anjodi. In the evening enjoy the Captain's Farewell Dinner on board.

Day 7: Le Somail

After breakfast, depart from Le Somail and transfer to the designated drop off point in Narbonne.


Disembark at Le Somail and transfer to the designated drop off point in Montpellier.
