New Year's Eve Cruise on the Danube (8 Days)

Embark the ship in Passau.

Day 1: Passau

Arrive in Passau and board your luxury Amethyst cruise ship from 14:30hrs this afternoon. Unpack and settle into your cabin before joining the Captain and crew for a welcome cocktail and dinner on board the ship this evening.

Day 2: Wachau

Arrive in the Wachau Valley in the morning. After breakfast you may join an optional tour of the Austrian valley with its picturesque landscapes formed by the Danube river. Key towns in this area are Melk and Krems. You will stop to visit the impressive Benedictine Abbey in Melk and have time to take explore the town with a visit to a local cellar for a wine tasting!

Day 3: Budapest

Arrive at Budapest at midday and explore the city at leisure or perhaps join an optional city tour which will take you to the highlights of both Buda and Pest. Buda, lying on the hills is home of the impressive Fishermen’s Bastion, the Citadel and the Heroes’ Square. Budapest has many cobbled streets and shopping lanes, the famous Opera House and the Parliament building. Following a tour of the Pest side, make a stop at the famous Market Hall, which houses around 180 stalls. After dinner back onboard the ship you can enjoy an evening at the Panorama bar or join an optional Budapest at night excursion including wine tasting.

Day 4: Budapest

Spend a further day in Budapest where you may explore at leisure or join an optional excursion to the grasslands of Puszta, one of Europe's largest expanses of protected prairie, where Hungarian grey cattle, stud horses and sheep graze on open pastures. Join this culinary excursion to this fascinating region.

Day 5: Bratislava

Arrive in Bratislava in the morning, a compact city best explored on foot. Explore at your own pace or join an optional city tour where you will walk through the city's historic Old Town and explore its cobbled streets and small parks. You will also visit Bratislava castle via the city train known as 'Presporacik'. After the city tour you can enjoy some free time in this interesting city.

Day 6: Vienna

Arrive in the imperial city of Vienna that has captivated travelers for years with its world class museums, beautiful gardens, elegant shops and cosmopolitan cafe culture. Here you may enjoy an optional city tour which will take you along the famous Ringstrasse, Vienna's main boulevard lined with magnificent Baroque palaces, parks and monuments. You will also visit the lavish Hofburg Palace, Vienna Opera House, St Stephen's Cathedral, the Parliament Buildings and to Schonbrunn Palace. In the evening enjoy a New Year's Dinner aboard the ship with ice cream parade.

Day 7: Vienna - Wachau

Wake up and start the New Year in Vienna and enjoy breakfast as the ship sails into the wintry Wachau valley. Here you may join an optional excursion with organ concert and visit the Göttweig Abbey, a Benedictine monastery near Krems.

Day 8: Passau

Disembark in Passau this morning after enjoying your final breakfast on board.
