Spain Tourist Guide

Spain

One of Europe's top vacation destinations, Spain has everything: enchanting cities, stunning landscape, sunny beaches, music and color. It is the third largest European country after France and Germany and it shares the Iberian peninsular with Portugal. The Guadiana waterway forms the natural frontier between Spain and Portugal and its banks are dotted with ancient fortified towns and villages. Spain has coasts facing the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and a varied landscape, including five mountain ranges and dramatic river valleys.

The Guadiana waterway forms the natural frontier between Spain and Portugal and its banks are dotted with ancient fortified towns and villages. Spain has coasts facing the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and a varied landscape including five mountain ranges and dramatic river valleys.

It's also one of Europe's top cultural countries, rich with tradition and heritage monuments, yet embracing modern art and architecture. From Seville, Spain's former capital, you can cruise the Guadalquivir River by day and enjoy an awesome Flamenco dance show by night. The Great Mosque of Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada are prime examples of an age when southern Spain was occupied by Moors, a Muslim people. Christian influences have left a legacy of Gothic church buildings in Burgos, Toledo and Leon.

Cadiz on the Atlantic coast is one of Spain's oldest cities though most of its architecture is Baroque and in Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast you will find the weird and wonderful work of Antoni Gaudi resplendent in colourful mosaics and the famous cathedral which remains unfinished.

Cruising Spain's rivers is a great way to experience the country. The Guadalquivir is Spain's longest waterway and the course of the Duero or Douro is shared with Portugal as it flows out to the Atlantic. The Ebro, which flows through Catalonia opens out into a delta that is rich wild life.
